Doha, Qatar – 17 February 2015: Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Q.S.C., the leading regional petrochemical powerhouse and a pioneer in petrochemical manufacturing, along with its sister company Qatofin, celebrated the fourth edition of the National Sports Day festivities at the QAPCO Club in Mesaieed.
QAPCO and Qatofin employees and their families participated in a fun-filled program and in an array of sports competition such as football, handball and volleyball matches, bowling tournaments, tennis and basketball games, spinning and cross-fit workouts. The joyful day brought together over 2,000 enthusiastic participants.
Commenting on the National Sport Day festivities, Dr. Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, Managing Director and CEO of QAPCO and Qatofin mentioned: “Aligned with the principles of the Qatar National Vision 2030, we believe sports will support a sustainable future for generations to come by shaping a fitter nation and a healthier tomorrow. The National Sports Day is an excellent opportunity to promote the regular practice of sports amongst our employees and to encourage them to do the same with their children. We hope it will inspire all of us to adopt healthier lifestyles, not just on Sports Day, but all year round.”
This year, QAPCO and Qatofin also placed a particular emphasis on the kids, the future generation. Through the activities offered, the aim was to encourage the younger ones to embrace healthy lifestyles and to practice sports every day.
During the sport day, the members of the QAPCO Club had the opportunity to highlight the all-year-round activities that are organized at the QAPCO Club for kids, such as swimming, karate, tennis and football.
On the occasion, Dr. Al Mulla also said: “Forging an athletic culture, striving for success and excellence are some of the core values that we defend on the field and that are positively reflected in our daily life. It is our responsibility, as parents, to transfer these sports and healthier values to the future generations. Every one of us has to contribute to building a healthier and fitter nation.”
Earlier in 2015, QAPCO launched its annual CSR campaign “Be Fit, Be Health, Be Happy”. QAPCO places the fitness and wellbeing of its employees and their knowledge of health related issues as a priority. Throughout the year, QAPCO organizes a number of health-oriented initiatives in order to promote healthy lifestyles within the company and the community. QAPCO has developed focused Corporate Social Responsibility programs and is investing in projects that support three key areas: employee and family welfare, education, and sports.
In its fitness drive, the QAPCO Club served healthy fruits snacks all day. QAPCO HSE and Medical teams were on site all day long, offering their support and ensured a safe and successful sport day for all.
The QAPCO Club, launched on Sports Day in February 2013, is a state-of-the-art world-class club and is the clear continuation of QAPCO’s vision, aspirations and ambitions, for the company and employees.
The day reflected the diversity of QAPCO as employees from 43 different nationalities entered the sporting competitions. Diversity is one of QAPCO’s strength and sport competitions have been instrumental, fostering social integration and reinforcing cohesion. Sport has contributed to shaping the QAPCO family and our Mesaieed community.
Since its inception in 1974, QAPCO’s corporate culture has been profoundly marked by sporting events and athletic competitions. Sport is an integral part of the company’s corporate culture. The establishment of the QAPCO Sports Committee back in 1988 is a remarkable illustration of QAPCO’s dedication to
promoting sports within the corporation and within the community. Every year QAPCO organizes no less than 10 major sports championships and the teams also do participate in local tournaments. As both the QAPCO Club Team and QAPCO Sports Committee are very active all year long, some of QAPCO’s flagship contests include the Winter Football Tournament, the famous Ramadan Football tournament, the Badminton, Cricket or Volleyball tournaments just to mention a few.
