Doha, Qatar – 9 September 2015: Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Q.S.C., one of the leading petrochemical powerhouses in the region and a pioneer in petrochemical production, recently celebrated the successful completion of its Summer Internship Program. 67 motivated summer interns, both from local and international universities, participated in the two-month program.

During the 8 weeks spent in QAPCO, the interns gained unparalleled exposure and significant industry knowledge. QAPCO strongly believes in nurturing today the talent of the future and places particular emphasis on the continuous coaching and mentoring of its summer interns, as they evolved along QAPCO senior employees and professional education experts for several weeks.

Highlighting the specificities of the QAPCO Summer Internship Program, Eng. Abdulla Ahmad Naji, QAPCO’s Learning & Development Manager, said, “Sharing our passion for science with talented aspiring engineers, and supporting them through the different stages of their development is important for us at QAPCO. To further this goal, our eight-weeks program aims to bridge the gap between theoretical study and the professional world by enabling the students to apply classroom theory to actual work situations.

Therefore, the program focuses on the practical aspects of working in the petrochemical industry, and is specifically designed for students to experience and manage real-life engineering and business scenarios. We are proud to offer both Qatari and Expatriate students these development opportunities, boosting their marketability after graduation, and preparing them for rewarding careers in the oil and gas industry.”

With an emphasis placed on applied learning, the program consists of 20 hours per week of industrial training in the plant, as well as a series of weekly workshops shaping both soft-skills like leadership and motivation, in addition to workshops addressing technical skills and knowledge pertaining specifically to the Petrochemical field.

Eng. Abdulla Ahmad Naji also stated, “The enthusiasm and determination of our summer interns was very inspiring, and this one-of-a-kind internship program surely broadened their skillset and sharpened their ambition. This practical type of learning cannot be achieved in the classroom or lecture halls and will surely be of great benefit to all the students. We were delighted to observe that the next generation of petro-technical experts thrives on challenge. I express my gratitude to all our Managers, Training Specialists, Subject Matter Experts and all our staff and education partners who have supported our Summer Internship Program through the years and made it one of the best in Qatar.”
