In recent years, global interest in plastic production, consumption, and waste had grown significantly. The plastic industry was intricate and had a broad impact across numerous business sectors globally. Addressing plastic waste challenges required extraordinary efforts, including systemic changes to transform the global plastic economy. The GPCA Plastics Conference, held under the theme “Investing in New Value Creation: A Sustainable Transformation,” aimed to provide a platform for industry discussions on direction, economic drivers, environmental impact, dispelling misconceptions, and assessing policies and technologies supporting sustainable plastic management.
The conference took place on May 14-15, 2023, in Al Khobar, facilitating two days of discussions on enhancing collaboration along the global production and post-use value chain, as well as with governments to achieve systemic change in the plastics economy. As part of QAPCO’s participation in the conference, QAPCO’s Chief Engineering Officer, Dr. Yousef Abdulla Rabea took part as a speaker in conference as part of the Strategic Panel that highlighted the role of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in promoting sustainable materials and waste management.
