QAPCO celebrates 5th Annual Qatarization Day and pays a tribute to outstanding national achievers

Doha, Qatar – 17 February 2015: Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Q.S.C., one of the leading petrochemical powerhouses in the region and a pioneer in petrochemical production, celebrated its Annual Qatarization Day. For the fifth consecutive year, QAPCO rewarded top Qatari achievers during the event, recognizing their outstanding achievements and valuable contribution to the success of the company.

The theme of the celebration revolved around how to achieve an effective work-life balance. Dr. Jassem Al-Mutawa, the keynote speaker of the event, delivered an inspiring lecture based upon the topic of how to be successful in the workplace and at home, with your family life.

On the occasion, Dr. Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, Managing Director and CEO of QAPCO stated, “National leadership is one of the driving forces of QAPCO and gives the company its cultural identity. Supporting national and sector employment objectives through direct employment of Qataris makes our company stronger.”

As QAPCO celebrates its fortieth anniversary in 2014, it was truly the occasion for the company to pay a tribute to all its employees and to its pioneers. QAPCO continuously reaches out to the Qatari youth through an array of initiatives aimed at supporting their educational journey.To support the company’s growth ambitions, and in line with its Quality Qatarization policy, QAPCO always aims to recruit talented and motivated students, by offering them stimulating careers in various disciplines within QAPCO.

During the ceremony, Eng. Abdulla Ahmed Naji, QAPCO’s Learning and Development Manager, mentioned, “In 2014, in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030’s objectives, QAPCO continued to support national talent and registered a Qatarization rate of 30.2%. We believe in investing heavily in the skills and success of our employees. We also reach out to the younger generation through partnerships with 13 schools, colleges and universities. In 2014, we had 222 educational development programs and 5 internship agreements with education institutes in Qatar. Plus, we have now 4 prestigious Chairs with local Universities. We focus in particular on raising awareness about engineering and chemistry. Our aim is to ensure the next generation of leaders is equipped with the relevant skills to drive the ambitions of our industry and of our country. We are proud to empower the Qatari youth and to shape the leaders of tomorrow”.

QAPCO has received for four years in a row the prestigious Qatarization Crystal, which highlights the success of QAPCO’s Scholarship program and places emphasis on QAPCO’s impressive track record of recruiting, developing and retaining talent and investing in the education of the youth of Qatar.

Many guests attended QAPCO’s Qatarization celebrations, including QAPCO’s managers and QAPCO’s main education partners, who play a pivotal role in supporting Qatarization within the company. QAPCO also distributed its education partnership awards to Qatar University, Texas A&M – Qatar, College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, Community College Qatar, and Qatar Independent Technical School.

In addition to forging alliances with community partners, QAPCO places a particular emphasis on the collaboration with local educational institutions. QAPCO’s educational partnerships enhance the cooperation between the Academia and the Industry, leading to knowledge exchange, information sharing and stimulate research and innovation.

Qatari employees participated with the company chiefs and higher management in an open discussion panel. Outstanding Qatari employees were awarded for their valuable contributions and efforts and for being motivators and role models for their colleagues.
